Dainty with a difference, the MALI handmade sterling silver pendant is infused with symbolism and is great for everyday wear. STORY BEHIND THE DESIGN
For this collection, I was really focused on creating symmetry between the strong patterns and shapes found in African mud cloth designs, but making the pieces light enough for everyday wear. The central diamond symbol is carried throughout the collection and it was important to me to create texture by using a repeating and irregular line pattern. This gives the shank of the ring, the bangle and the hoops that tactile element that is reminiscent of mud cloth fabric.
By infusing elements of African mud cloth into modern jewellery design, my intention was to not only create beautiful adornments but also to honour the rich heritage and traditions of West African culture.

Sterling Silver
Sterling silver consists of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other alloys and is a durable and lightweight alloy expertly crafted to withstand the test of time, making it ideal for daily wear. Sterling Silver embodies timeless sophistication with its classic silvery cool tones.
I use 925 certified sterling silver, guaranteeing its authenticity and premium quality.
9ct Gold
9ct gold is a widely used alloy in jewellery and adds a touch of luxury. It contains 37.5% pure gold and 62.5% other metals like copper, silver, or zinc. The blend of metals provides strength and durability, perfect for everyday wear.
9ct gold has a softer yellow colour compared to higher-carat gold. Its hardness also makes it resistant to scratches and dents, ensuring the jewellery's longevity.
Please note: Individuals with metal allergies should be cautious, as the higher proportion of base metals may cause reactions.
Overall, 9ct gold strikes a balance between affordability, durability, and aesthetic appeal, making it a popular choice for various jewellery designs.
CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Sterling Silver
Sterling silver is a metal that can naturally tarnish and turn dull over time. To keep your sterling silver looking shiny, store your jewellery pieces away from moisture, harsh chemicals (including household chemicals), perfumes and lotions. It is recommended you remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing and hand washing.
One of the best ways to prevent sterling silver jewellery from tarnishing is by wearing it. Your skin's oils can help to keep the jewellery clean and maintain its brilliance.
Cleaning can also be done easily with a silver polishing cloth (I recommend a Sunshine Polishing Cloth), but avoid the cloth coming into contact with any gemstones and/or gold vermeil.
9ct Gold
9ct Gold can lose its shine. Keep it looking its best by storing your jewellery pieces away from moisture, harsh chemicals (including household chemicals), perfumes and lotions. It is recommended you remove your jewellery before swimming, bathing and hand washing.
You can easily clean your 9ct gold jewellery by soaking it in some lukewarm water and after a couple of minutes, scrubbing it gently with a soft toothbrush and mild soap.
Gemstones
Skeleton Coast Jewellery takes pride in selecting natural gemstones and diamonds that are completely unique and one-of-a-kind. These stones may contain inclusions which do not signify a flaw within the stone, but rather the individuality of something that has been created by Earth many lifetimes ago.
